1. When will the lecture video become available online?
Lecture videos will available live during the scheduled class time. Lecture videos will be posted within 24 business hours of lecture completion. Although we make every attempt to provide videos within 30 minutes of class completion, exceptions are made in cases of rare technical difficulties that may arise.
2. How long will the video be stored on the server? [Top ]
All courses remain accessible throughout the semester and are removed after the final exams from the servers.
3. What platforms are supported by USC Webcast? [Top ]
USC Webcast uses Microsoft's Windows Media Player (9.0 or higher) for viewing course videos. Media Players are currently available for Windows XP and Vista, Macintosh OSX and Solaris OS .
4. What software do I need for USC Webcast? [Top ]
USC Webcast requires Microsoft's Windows Media Player (9.0 or higher) for viewing course videos. A web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox is also needed. To download the players and review system requirements, click here.
5. What if I cannot view a file, or get an error that states "unable to find or open a specific video file"? [Top ]
There are two main reasons for getting an error message. First, make sure you are using the latest version of Media Player available (9.0 or higher ).
Second, if your company has a firewall, it is possible that it will not accept the video's protocol (UDP). Please check with your network administrator regarding the firewall's configurations and to see if there is a proxy server set up for you. If you are facing any problem watching the streaming video you might want to check the proxy settings of the Windows Media Player.
To enter your Proxy Hostname and Port Number (after checking with your network administrator), do the following:
In Windows Media Player 11 “Library” menu, go to “Options -> Network -> Configure. Select “Use the following proxy server” and enter the address and port number of the proxy server.
6. What web browser do I need to view USC Webcast's videos?[Top ]
Any versions of Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 6.x and above will work. DEN uses embedded video files by default. Click here to download and install plug-ins to view embedded files.
7. How do I control the video?[Top ]
You can start and navigate the video by utilizing the video controls (which work just like VCRs), using the pull-down menu, or jumping to sections in the video by moving the scroll bar located below the video window.
8. Can I enlarge the video window? [Top ]
You can increase the size of the screen by clicking on the bottom right corner and dragging your mouse. You can also go to "View" and select from the pre-defined settings.
9. What do the digitized lecture videos look like? [Top ]
Lectures run from 50 minutes to 180 minutes in length. The frame rates of the videos are 10 fps for the low bandwidth videos and 30 fps for the high bandwidth videos. To navigate through the videos, a pull-down menu appears below the video screen allowing the student to jump to the time at which the lecture starts or resumes. The viewer can click and download the notes associated with the lecture.
10. Is it possible to download the lecture and view without Internet connection? [Top ]

11. Does the Windows Media Player require a license key during installation? [Top ]
No. Windows Media Player is available for free from the Microsoft's web site and hence, the license key is not required for installation.
